Bitumen Primer grade is a bitumen based primer for the surface conditioning of concrete and timber substrates prior to the application of heat fused APP and SBS modified bitumen membranes such as UniTorch.
Versatile Bituminous Primer for porous and non–porous surfaces
- Used on concrete, metal and timber surfaces
- Economical & easy to apply
Bitumen Primer Application
Bitumen Primer may be applied by brush or roller. The applied film must be allowed to dry before being overlaid with any waterproofing treatment so as to avoid solvent entrapment. Surface preparation as with all surface coatings, good preparation is of paramount importance to the success and long–life of the system. Ensure that the surface to be treated is dry and free of loose, dusting or flaking particles and free from contaminants such as grease and fungus. Defects such as cracks, broken mortar joints, etc. are to be repaired prior to primer application.
Usage of Bitumen Primer
Bitumen primers used in the adhesion of the coating acts as a bond between the surfaces. Bitumen Primers come in many different types of primer based on the substrate, weather conditions, and the type of coating being applied.
Surfaces which generally require Primer include
Metal flashings, gravel stops, and other metal edging, concrete and masonry roof decks, masonry walls and floors and gypsum (CaSO4·2H2O) and other porous surfaces. Asphalt primers should be used with asphalt materials only.

Uses of Bitumen Primer D41
Suitable for use with asphalt in roofing, damp proofing, and waterproofing below or above ground level, for application to concrete. Masonry, metal and asphalt surfaces. Also used as a primer coat to receive membranes or liquid as asphalts and asphalt products.
The universal primer on roofs and walls made from reinforced concrete, asphalt, bricks, metal and porous substrates before applying any of waterproofing sheet membranes and protective coatings. Single coat protective coating on various construction structures and on metal structures. It can be applied on vertical and horizontal structures.
Instructions for application
Primer D 41 should be thoroughly stirred before use. The surface should be dry, clean and free of loose materials, dirt, soil, grease, oil or other impurities. Apply Bitumen Primer D41 by means of a brush, roller or spray gun @ of 5–6 m²/lit into the entire coverage area of the substrate and allow drying. The drying time and coverage depends on the porosity of the substrate and the environmental conditions.
The Primer can be removed from equipment and tools with any suitable solvent such as gasoline or kerosene.
Approximate rate: 0.2 – 0.3 Kg/m2. The exact rate will depend upon the porosity or smoothness of the surface.
Health & Safety
Personnel should wear protective masks, gloves, and goggles during application.
Bitumen Primer D41 contains volatile solvent and has a low flash point. Care must be taken to ensure that there is adequate ventilation in the working lace. Fires and naked flames should be kept at a distance.
Store in a dry and shaded area in original packing. The container should be kept covered while working in order to prevent the evaporation of the solvent.
